A contract to design, build and maintain a fibre-optic network across north Wales has been awarded to geo, part of the Hutchinson Whampoa group.
The network is aimed at providing enterprises across the region with high-speed broadband services and link 14 business parks with access, reports the Western Mail.
Involving £30 million of investment from the Welsh Assembly Government, the FibreSpeed network follows Geo's previous contracts delivering similar services for other customers.
The procurement process took place across Europe and the north Wales network is expected to add up to £29 million annually to the Welsh economy, according to the Assembly Government.
"FibreSpeed is a major step in the creation of an infrastructure which will give a whole range of Welsh companies and organisations a standard of communications services easily equal to the best in Britain," said deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones.
The Assembly Government recently announced funding of an extra £1 million to assist in cleaning effort around the country.
